The Nigerian Sports Award Panel is set up to allow for maximum participation of all stakeholders involved in sports in Nigeria, and those knowledgeable of sports in general.

The Panel consists of the following stakeholders:

Dr Tandoh Kweku

TANDOH, Kweku Adedayo

Dr TANDOH, Kweku Adedayo is a medical doctor by training and profession and an astute sport administrator having trained and practiced at different levels over the years. He started his education at Corona School, Yaba, did his secondary school at Kings College and went on to study Medicine at the University of Lagos.

Dr Tandoh is a man of many parts with vast experience having worked in both private and public companies.

  • He served as the Director, Planning, Research and Education at the NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART, NIGERIA from September 2006 to September 2013
  • He was the Special Assistant to the Director-General/Deputy Director, Special Duties at the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation.
  • He was the Medical Officer attached to the under-21 National Football Team from 1986 and 1987
  • He was the Director of Sports at the between September 2013 and July 2015 at the Lagos State Sports Council
  • He was the Secretary-General, Local organizing Committee for the 18th National Sports Festival Eko 2012
  • His has been the Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Medicine Association from January 2012 till date
  • He was the Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association from November 1999 till June 2004
  • He was the Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Badminton Association from March 1993 to March 1994 etc

Asides from the places where he has worked and the [positions held, he has also been involved and found worthy of some special assignments; Technical Development Commission member of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (JUNE 2015-TILL DATE), Football Committee Member of the Nigerian Football Federation (NOV 2014-TILL DATE), member of the Main Organizing Committee of the 19th National Sports Festival 2016, member of the Local Organizing Committee of the National Sports Festival Abuja 2004, Medical Committee Coordinator of the 7th General Assembly of West African Football Union (June 1993 and a host of other special assignments.


Fabio Lanipekun

Fabio LanipekunTo say that Mr. Fabio Lanipekun, a seasoned Journalist and a product of the Regent Street Polytechnic, London, has been around the sporting sphere for a long time, will be only scratching the surface of his illustrious career. He took the sporting world by storm by becoming the first Sports Editor in WNTV – WNBS, Ibadan. He later moved on to become the first Manager, Sports, NTA.

His tenacity and vigour in his approach to his profession saw him cover major sporting events around the world like several editions of Nigerian National Sports Festival, ECOWS Games, All African Games, The Olympics, CAF Championships, FIFA Championships, World Cups, to mention but a few.

His enviable influence also saw him take on numerous appointments like: Member, Press, Publicity and Public Relations Sub-Committee, 2nd All African Games, Chairman, Federal Ministry of Sports Sponsorship and Marketing Committee for Atlanta ’96, in 1992’ and tens more.

What makes Mr. Fabio Lanipekun even more outstanding is that he is actually a sportsman himself. He was a member of the Methodist Boy’s High School soccer team that won the Lagos School Cup in 1961; a Gold Medalist, Long Jump Senior, Methodist Boys’ High School, 1961 and many others.

Mr. Fabio Lanipekun is a Foundation Member of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) 1964; Chairman, SWAN, 1970 and a Member of the International Sports Association.


Mrs Hauwa-Kulu Akinyemi

Mrs Hauwa-Kulu Akinyemi is a household name when it comes to Sports Administration (a male dominated sector) at the highest level in Nigeria. Her path in the world of sports administration traverses right from her local constituency up to the federal level. The Kogi born Sports Administrator is a graduate of Sociology from the Faculty of Arts and Science, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1980 – 1983).

She is a trained sports administrator having obtained the following certificates;

  • Masters in Sport Management, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
  • Sc. Sociology, Higher National Diploma (Sports Management) NIS
  • Diploma, Advanced Sports Management

She has served at various capacities in different sports federation and parastatals in the country. She was the administrative officer of the Administration Department of the Nigerian Sports Commission (Jan ’85 – Dec ‘89), She was the Secretary-General of Swimming Federation of Nigeria (Jan ’90 – Jan ‘94), she was the Secretary-General of the Tennis Federation of Nigeria (Jan ’94 – Aug ‘98), she was the Secretary-General of the Special Sports Federation of Nigeria (Sept ’98 – Sept ‘01), She was appointed as a Deputy Director at the National Sports Commission between 2007 and 2013 before she was finally made a Director in 2015 (Making her the FIRST FEMALE DIRECTOR OF SPORTS IN NIGERIA AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL). Presently, she is the Director of Federations and Elite Athletes department of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.

As a recognition of her deeds as an administrator per excellence, she has received numerous awards from different bodies including the Kogi State chapter Nigerian Women in Sports, Complete Success Magazine, numerous federations where she has served etc. She was given a Sports Administrator per Excellence award by the Nigerian Sports Commission.

She is married with 3 children.


Ejiro Omonode

A graduate of Sociology from the University of Benin, Ejiro Omonode has years of experience both as a sports man and as a sports journalist.

A representative of Bendel State for over 2 decades in Hockey, Tennis and Cricket, he also spent time with the national team cricket campaign.

As a journalist, Ejiro has worked with Complete Football, The Guardian Newspapers and Sunday Newspapers, Port Harcourt. During this period, he has covered the Olympics (Barcelona till date), various international Cricket competitions, including the quadrangular in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gambia. He has also covered Football competitions including the African Nations Cup and the World Cup at various instances.

Ejiro Omonode is currently the Managing Director, Mastersports.


Chief Falilat Ogunkoya (MON)

OgunkoyaBorn: 5 DEC 1968 in Ode Lemo, Ogun state, NIGERIA, Falilat attended Mississippi State University from 1987-1992 and graduated with a degree in Education.

Falilat Ogunkoya is a famous name in the sports (athletics) circle. She is a Nigerian athlete that has participated in many national and international athletics competitions including the Olympics Games and won laurels for our great country, Nigeria and our continent Africa. She started athletics in High School in 1983, in Ogun state of Nigeria under the watchful eyes of coach John Afuwape. She began to run the sprints as a junior athlete; won the 200 meters and was a member of the winning 400 meter relay team at 1984 African Zone 3 Junior Championships in Accra, Ghana.

Nigerian’s Falilat Ogunkoya actually put in over twenty years of active athletic activities with resounding successes in very many major competitions and Track meets all over the world. She is the first female Nigerian athlete to win an individual Olympic medal, first Nigerian to win two medals in the same Olympics, a silver and a bronze at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and still holds the African record in 400-metres event until date.

Falilat was inducted to the all of fame in 1998 after she became the first person in school history to win an Olympic medal. In her collegiate years at MSU, she made All-American honors several times in the 100, 200 and 400 meters.

Chief Falilat Ogunkoya (MON), a member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has now set up FALILAT OGUNKOYA SPORT FOUNDATION.


Fred Edoreh

Fred Edoreh is the chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos chapter in which he has also served as secretary. A renowned sports journalist, broadcaster, analyst and sports development strategist, he is reputed to have created, produced and presented several radio and television sports programmes and magazines and has travelled widely across the world to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games and other world championships in the course of his professional practice .

A member of the Association of International Sports Press (AIPS) and an ex-officio of the Lagos Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, he has played and continues to play significant roles in the organisation and promotion of many major sporting events in Nigeria and across Africa.

Olumide Oyedeji

Olumide Oyedeji

Born: May 11 in Ibadan Oyo State Nigeria.  Olumide Oyedeji attended CAC primary School, Oniyanrin, Ibadan and had his secondary education at Loyola College, Ibadan. He attended the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He furthered his education in the United State of America, where he obtained an Associate Degree in Human & Social Behavioural Sciences, Degree in Psychology and Masters Degree in Public Relation & Communication from Florida Met. University.

Olumide Oyedeji began his career with Ebun Comets in Nigeria and played at various cities, highest level basketball leagues and notable places around the world.
He was the former captain of the Nigerian basketball team and a former NBA player with Seattle Supersonics, Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks in U.S.A. He is a member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, he is the Chairman of Osun State Basketball Association, Founder & President of Olumide Oyedeji Youth Foundation that provides for underprivileged, youth empowerment and giving helping hands for the children in needs. He is also the President and CEO of Hoops & Read Basketball Club, a team in the Nigeria Premier Basketball League that caters for youth education and promote basketball. He is not only a professional Athlete, Olumide Oyedeji is a career and motivational speaker.

Olumide Oyedeji, the Nigerian international basketball icon is the most achieved, successful and decorated Nigeria Basketball player of all time for the country.

Olumide believes in giving back to the society what he got from the system and putting smiles on the faces of the youths. In November 2013, he hosted a charity basketball clinic for youth to fight against Gun and Knife Crime and keep our street clean at the Damilola Taylor Centre in Peckham, South London while he also organizes annual Olumide Oyedeji Basketball Camp which started in 2000 and over 45,000 kids have participated.

Olumide Oyedeji has won different awards for his Humanitarian and philanthropy, which includes Leadership and Sports awareness awards, Sport Personality award, Role Model award, Grassroots Development award, Sports award of Excellence, Youth Ambassador award and Youth Empowerment and Mentor award etc


Tade Adekunle

P. Tade Adekunle holds a Master’s degree in Theatre Arts from the prestigious University of Ibadan. He has worked in various organisation over the years among which are; Automania, Collective Artistes, SO&U Saatchi & Saatchi and Fidelity Bank Plc. He joined the Cosse group in 1999 – first overseeing Videolab and Audiolab and became the pioneer General Manager of Towncriers in 2001.

In his student days, Tade was once the President of ATAS IU as well as Vice President of Nigerian Universities Theatre Arts Students’ Association (NUTASA). At the national level, Tade was a past National President of National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) 1998 – 2003. He has served in various Federal Government Committees – Ministerial Committee on the review of Cultural Policy (2000 – 2001), Ministerial Committee on the establishment of the National Endowments for the Arts (2001 – 2003) among others.

Tade contributes articles on socio-political and cultural issues in leading national dailies in Nigeria. He is a member of International Special Events Society (ISES) and Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and has attended various training courses and conferences both in Nigeria and abroad. He is currently serving as a member of the Steering Committee of the International Network of Cultural Diversity (INCD), Canada and Arterial Network.

Tade Adekunle is currently the Project Consultant/CEO of KESKESE Limited – an experiential marketing /brand activation company in Lagos.


Kayode Idowu

kayode idowuPopularly known as Kay, Kayode is a graduate of Pure & Applied Chemistry from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

Kayode’s strength is in the areas of Sponsorships, Experiential Marketing, Brand Activations, Musical Concert Planning & Management and Event management & Marketing with over 10 years in the business of Marketing Communications.

He has years of experience working with Towncriers ltd, FKG2 Ltd, Tequila events Nigeria Ltd, Silverbird Entertainment and Solsan communications. During his stay at these organizations, he managed various accounts like MTN, BAT (Benson & Hedges, ST. Moritz, Rothmans, Pallmall and Dunhill), Guinness, SFH, Western Union, Standard Chartered Bank and De-united foods to mention a few.

Kay is currently the GM, Keskese Limited – an experiential marketing/brand activation company in Lagos.
