The Year in Review for Sportsman of the Year Category

In the year in review; Yakubu Adesokan, a para-powerlifting athlete won a gold medal at the 11th All-African Games and in the process set a new world record with a lift of 182.5kg in the 49kg weight class. Also, he had won silver medal at a recent Open Asia Championship held in Kazakhstan before the 11th All-African Games.

 

 

 

 

 

ARUNA QUADRI
Aruna Quadri

In the year in review; Aruna Quadri, a professional table tennis player for Nigeria was at the beginning of this year adjudged by ITTF as Star Player of the year and the Male Player of the year at an award ceremony held on Wednesday in Dubai. He won silver in the Men’s singles while he engineered Team Nigeria to win gold media in the Men’s Table Tennis event at the 11th All-African Games and in the process, Nigeria qualified for 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He won couple of tournaments with his Portuguese club GD Toledos before joining a top French club. He is currently ranked No 43 in the world.

 

 

CHAMBERLAIN OGUCHI
Chamberlain Oguchi

In the year in review; Chamberlain Oguchi, a basketball player was among D’ Tigers, the Nigeria Men Basketball Team that won AfroBasket 2015 (their first ever AfroBasket title), defeating Angola 74-65 in the final. Oguchi led the team in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game. For his impressive performance throughout the tournament, he was named Most Valuable Player, Best 3-Point Shooter and he also topped the All-Star Five list of Afrobasket 2015. He plays for Anwil Włocławek in Poland.
